Hi All

Had an absolute nightmare yesterday.

Got to the hospital at 7.30am checked in sent my husband home and said I would ring when I needed to be collected. Had blood taken and issued with wristband for the day hospital, then sat in A & E for 4 hours until called for the day ward. During this time I saw the NHS at its worst. A man who was drunk came in sat down and promptly soiled himself, and was left sitting there for over an hour despite peoples pleas for help. They were so busy and the staff said it was because another local hospital has recently closed down.

Once on the ward eventually the surgeon arrived and told me probably would not be able to do it today as to busy, but it does need lancing and draining asap, I was extremely upset and in pain, I said that if I sat there in the ward all day are you telling me that I would most likely be sent home, he said yes and the best thing to do would for him to ring me to make an appointment.

They had also lost the letter I gave them when I arrived from my doctor with details of medication I am taking.

I promptly got up and walked out. Phoned my hubby for the telephone number of Blackheath private hospital and they said they could do it.

When I arrived taken in straight away and although I had a local anethestic they did it in 20mins, the pain was very nearly unbearable I was clingling on to the nurses hand for dear life.

The cost was £112.00 but it was worth every penny. Got to go up again today to have it dressed they said it might be painful as they have to pack it but that is included in the price.

I am feeling so much better at least now I only have the pain of RA.

Speak to you all soon.

Hi Anne

So sorry to hear what an horrendous day you had yesterday, but so pleased to hear the outcome was so good ! I live in your locality, I wouldn t ask what hospital you attended but I know this area very well - put it like that ! I am having terrible problems with a big nodule on my hand causing no end of problems with my hand etc. I m getting nowhere with the hospital, surprise surprise ! might just consider your route - my GP did mention going private the other day.

Hope you are feeling better today,

Julia x

hi Annie,

what a nightmare you had ... i can't begin to imagine how you were feeling sat there waiting with all that going on around you. if the NHS works well it works well, but sadly you hear of so many cases that don't.

so glad you managed to get it done and under local anesthetic too was a bonus,

£112 well spent !!

hope you are feeling more comfortable today.

take care,

Suzanne x

Annie, How terrible an experience.

You need to complain actually

in the meantime- lancing things and having wounds packed is EXCRUTIATING and you need to be off your trolley pain relief wise. I had surgery once with a big abscess and they gave me pethadin and an anti- sickness jab.

with the packing, the district nurse will do this.

ring the surgery on monday

it gets less painful as it heals. i hope you are on anti biotics too.

take some co-codamol 40mins before they change the dressing.

Love

Jenni xx

Thanks Jenni I'm back up the private hospital to have it redressed and packed this afternoon, they did advise me to take painkillers beforehand as it would be painful. I have an appointment at the doctors tomorrow with the nurse.

Suzanne, I really would have preferred to have been put out and known nothing of what was going on and be painfree.

Julia, it was Queen Elizabeth hospital on Woolwich Common. With regards to your hand just phone the hospital they will give you a price.

Just been interrupted whilst typing the hospital phoned they MIGHT be able to fit me in today told them been elsewhere and give their bed to someone else who needs it.

Hi Annie,

What a dreadful time you had, thank goodness you were able to get it done privately although you should not have had to do that.
You should ring PALS and complain, I did this recently and ,as my GP said, they need to be told what is happening. If people don't speak up they will keep on giving us poor service.
Good luck with the dressing this afternoon, hope it's not too painful for you.

Love, Doreen xx

Hi Annie,

What a horrible experience - I agree with others who have said you must complain, as your treatment was shoddy to say the least.

I`m glad you were able to get prompt treatment privately - years ago I had to go down that route myself, and as you say, it is money well spent.

Hope you feel more comfortable soon, and that it heals well.

Hi All

Just want to say a huge thank you to all of you who have supported me through this.

That is why this site is great I can come on here and let off steam tell you my aches and pains as and when I need to and that really helps me knowing that many of you understand.

I think not knowing you personally helps. I am not one to share my feelings with even my closest family so having a good old moan on here is perfect for me.

I am feeling so much better, not going into work until after Christmas so having quite abit of me time. I don't even feel quilty.

Once again thank you so much.

Anne x

Hi Anne,

I have only just caught up with your nightmare, so sorry you have had all this to deal with. I am glad you have been taken care of and things are so much better now.

That was a disgrace at the hospital, unfortunately it is full of "All sorts" it's a pity there is not a separate area for these people. You should definitely complain about your treatment or write to your local newspaper regarding the way things were dealt with. You never know they may open the other hospital up again if it draws enough attention.

Have a lovely Christmas and painless New Year

Hi All

Just to let you know the abcess is not healing properly, doctor not happy that I didn't have a general anethestic so they could go deeper and remove all the nasty stuff, he thinks it maybe reforming, have an appointment again tomorrow so he can have another look.

More pencillin, fingers crossed it goes away.

Hello Anne, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope that you don't have to go through it all again. I was wondering what your Doc thinks to the dreadful treatment at the hospital. I feel that any type of infection takes longer to heal because of the drugs we take. Try to res up if you can and take care. Glenys.
